We had a little chat with Michael Lindberg, director of Surf & Sup Denmark, to get his opinion on the best SUP destinations in Europe. Here are his top five recommendations:
Copenhagen
Escape the tourist hustle and experience Copenhagen's top attractions, like the Opera House and The Little Mermaid, from the water. You can enjoy a relaxed SUP tour in Amager Beach Park, where the quiet lagoons offer an unforgettable natural experience.
A sightseeing tour of Copenhagen by SUP not only has the advantage of being able to explore the city from the water, but also the physical activity that comes with it. Standing and paddling requires muscle strength and balance, making this tour a fun form of exercise while providing an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the city.
Hamburg
Hamburg offers an inspiring and beautiful SUP experience with its canal network around the Alster. Paddle past historic buildings, modern architecture, and green spaces and experience the city from a whole new perspective. If you visit Hamburg in summer, SUP is also a great way to cool down in the heat. You can easily jump into the water from your board and swim around or just relax in the sun!
Amsterdam
Amsterdam is often referred to as the “Venice of the North” due to its extensive canal network, which stretches for more than 100 kilometers. The city is surrounded by water, which means there are countless places to explore on SUP. From the busy canals in the city center to the quieter and hidden canals on the outskirts, you can spend several hours exploring Amsterdam's unique waterways - so remember your RAWBITE snack.
Venice

Stand-up paddle boarding has become a popular activity in recent years, and for good reason. This water sport combines exercise, nature and a sense of freedom and is suitable for all ages and levels. If you want to experience Europe's major cities in a very unique way, then stand-up paddle boarding is definitely worth a try. Last but not least, Michael gave us some good tips that are essential for SUPing.
- Check weather and wind conditions before getting out on the water.
- Be visible and always remember a life jacket.
- Go out on the water with a friend - it's always more fun and safer when there are two of you.
- Be aware of your surroundings and respect the rules.
- Always bring snacks! And of course a RAWBITE, because a day on the paddleboard can be hard work!
